OK I have done some bizarre posts lately regarding body fluids, etc. (someone has to do it dammit) Might as well continue the trend...in the that madness will talk about anything vein...
Here is something I didn't know. If a penis is swollen up and you put sugar on it, it will shrink back down. Apparently it has to do with osmosis. Well who'd a thunk it?
I can't imagine anything more painful than having a very swollen penis but that's what someone had a few months ago in my ER. It was a side effect of treatment they were getting. So to the break room for the sugar packets the nurse went. It worked.
The guy was being admitted. Now the next part of this blog entry goes into the "could you be a bigger idiot" category of giving report to an inpatient nurse.
The report is going along and the nurse comes to the part about the sugar. The receiving nurse exclaims: "Oh no, I don't know if we can take this patient, we are having a real problem with fruit flies up here". Let me pause so you can think that over.................
The receiving nurse tells our ER nurse that they need to talk to their charge nurse about it. Having not heard back, the ER nurse calls and the station takes the patient.
And we write down another entry in the "unbelievable things that are heard and seen in the ER" record book.

LOL...no 'we're short-staffed', no 'the room is dirty'....???
I once had a nurse on the floor tell me the room was infested with ladybugs!
Funny thing, IT WAS!!
uhhh--how exactly does that work? seriously. do you put the sugar on & wrap it with gauze, or what? not so seriously, do you use sweet & low if he's diabetic?
would u need to make a sugar solution?
@sndrca - probably splenda; don't want to cause penis cancer, ya know.
This actually makes sense - James Herriot in one of his veterinarian books writes about another vet using a 5 pound bag of sugar and a tray to replace a prolapsed uterus in a cow. Sugar's great for all kinds of stuff!
Dr. Bearemy sees your swollen penis and raises you one prolapsed rectum. Is there anything sugar can't do?

Wow, I'm impressed! It sounds a whole lot better and surgical decompression!
