everyones worst nightmare

Watching on TV  NYU hospital in New York City being evacuated right now due to power failure and back up generator failure.

I can't imagine that happening. All the lights go out, all the power goes off, including the power that runs the ventilators.  I don't know if vents have battery power, never had to think about it. Lots of modern medical technology depends on electricity.  Lots of very complex technology that makes my stomach hurt to think about going out. I hope everybody survives.

This is every hospitals, every nurses and doctors nightmare come to life. I pray for them and their patients.

Saw this on the news. Back up generator failed. Why do I suspect that some bean counter wouldn't spring for periodic inspections/testing?

My blood ran cold when I saw that. I can't imagine scrambling under light by flashlight to bag the vent patients (I don't know if more modern vents have battery backup) and having no monitor readings on unstable patients. Then realizing the back up generator is not going to work.
The large teaching hospital that I worked at would give us a start, occasionally when there was a several minute gap between the power failure and the backup coming on.
I just cannot imagine what they went through.

I heard on the news that before the strom came they transferred the really sick out. So hopefully that means most of the people on vents were already gone.
