Dear Jane/John Q. Public:
May I have your attention for the following announcement:
CONSTIPATION FOR 3 DAYS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY.
REPEAT
CONSTIPATION FOR 3 DAYS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY.
IT IS ESPECIALLY NOT AN EMERGENCY THAT REQUIRES YOU TO CALL
911.
Seriously, people, do you realize when you call an ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT AMBULANCE for your silly constipation, sore throat, vaginal discharge, etc. etc., you are putting an ambulance out of service that could respond to someone having a heart attack, has a cardiac arrest, has been in a major accident. They aren't available because they are hauling you sorry, dumb ass in. And here's the thing: You aren't going back to a room. You will go to the waiting room with all of the other non-emergent problems.
There should be some kind of consequence for this stupid shit.

Why can't EMS triage like you guys do and tell the "patient" their issue is not an emergency, they will go to the waiting room, and will have to pay in advance for transport. Obviously true emergencies wouldn't fall under the pay in advance rule.
That's a darn good idea, but the powers to be will wave the liability flag on that one. The medics aren't doctors blah blah blah.
This country has become a bunch of weenies
Every state needs to have a list of b.s. Things that are not going to covered by Medicare Medicaid private insurance and if you still want to wait and see the doc you can pay for yourself. What's so wrong about that? If doc sees you and it turns out to be a real emergency well then insurance will pay. So many visits hospitals not getting paid for are going to put them out of business.
